"Femme Fatale First Daughter" promises a rebirth and revenge story set in ancient China, a genre I usually devour. While it has some intriguing elements, my experience was a bit of a mixed bag.

The early chapters introduce us to the scheming half-sister and conniving concubine, setting the stage for some satisfying face-slapping moments. I was eager to see how the female lead, Mo Xuetong, would navigate the complex web of family politics.

What Works Well

The author's writing style is undeniably engaging. Despite some translation issues, I found myself wanting to know what happened next. I also appreciated that Mo Xuetong isn't portrayed as overly powerful. She's clever, yes, but also vulnerable, making her more relatable. The mystery surrounding her mother's death kept me invested, even when other aspects of the story faltered. Some readers also enjoyed the slow-burn romance and found the initial interactions between the female lead and potential male leads to be quite sweet.

This constant barrage of schemes, coupled with the overuse of certain insults, made the story feel somewhat exhausting. Also, I found some of the characterizations to be questionable, particularly the father's inconsistent behavior and the lustful thoughts directed towards the underage female lead.
