Description
The noble class that treats those born with white hair or heterochromia as treacherous snakes, Shirley was born into the family of the most powerful duke in the land adorned with stunning hair the colour of snow, and non-matching red and blue eyes. Hated by her own family, and having the only man who she ever loved snatched away by a jealous younger sister on her wedding night, she is imprisoned on false charges. Enduring torture and humiliation, she vowed to take revenge against those who wronged her. But, even though she escaped, in her belly there was the child of her former fiancée. Even if the man himself is hateful, an unborn child is without sin. After giving birth to healthy twins, she thought to leave them at an orphanage for safekeeping, but… “Ah, what to do, my daughters are just too cute.” Shirley was floored by the feelings she held for the two girls she had brought into the world. Choosing motherhood over revenge, she fled the Empire and settled in a remote town in the neighbouring Kingdom. In order to support her children, she found herself entering through the doors of the Adventurers Guild. It would be nice if they could live a nice quiet life out here, where the empire won’t think to look for them… “Miss Shirley! Calamity-class monsters are appearing in the Kingdom! Can you help us!?” “I’m very sorry, but I have to decline. I’m helping my daughters with their homework today.” After ten years, she had somehow become known around the world over as “The Demonic White Sword”.

My Thoughts on Even Though I’m a Former Noble and a Single Mother, My Daughters Are Too Cute and Working as an Adventurer Isn’t Too Much of a Hassle
This title is definitely a mouthful, and after diving in, I have mixed feelings about whether the story lives up to its promise. It certainly has elements I enjoyed, but also some aspects that left me wanting more.
First Impressions
The initial premise is intriguing: a betrayed noblewoman, pregnant and exiled, forced to rebuild her life as an adventurer while raising twin daughters. The prologue sets up a compelling narrative of revenge and hardship. However, the story quickly jumps ten years ahead, leaving a gap in the narrative that some readers found disappointing, and I can understand why. It felt like we skipped over a crucial part of Shirley's journey.
What Works Well
The dynamic between Shirley and her daughters is undeniably a highlight. The author does a decent job of portraying the "daughterly cuteness," which is a central theme. I appreciate that Shirley's maternal instincts drive much of her actions. Her protectiveness, sometimes veering into "yandere mom" territory, adds an interesting layer to her character. The world-building is also commendable. The author creates a believable fantasy setting with its own lore and creature behaviors. The action sequences are well-written, especially when focusing on strategic combat rather than just raw power.
Areas of Concern
One major sticking point for me is the power scaling. Shirley's abilities escalate rapidly, sometimes feeling like a power fantasy disguised as slice-of-life. Several readers also pointed out inconsistencies and some odd plot choices, such as the "maid costume" incident, which felt out of character and unnecessary. The potential romance with Kyle is also a point of contention. The age gap and his immature personality make him an unappealing romantic interest for many, myself included. It feels forced and detracts from the story's strengths.

Final Verdict
"Even Though I’m a Former Noble and a Single Mother, My Daughters Are Too Cute and Working as an Adventurer Isn’t Too Much of a Hassle" has potential, but it's ultimately a mixed bag. The strong start and heartwarming family moments are overshadowed by inconsistent plot development, questionable character choices, and an over-reliance on power fantasy elements. If you're looking for a lighthearted read with a focus on family, this might scratch that itch, but be prepared for some frustrating moments along the way. I'd give it a cautious recommendation, maybe around a 3/5.
