"Doll Survival Game" is a web novel that definitely kept me on my toes, even if it wasn't always for the best reasons. It's got a unique premise and a blend of genres – action, adventure, fantasy, and a little shounen ai on the side – that makes it stand out in the crowded isekai market. I went in expecting a wild ride, and I certainly got one!
First Impressions
The initial hook is strong. We're thrown into a world where the MC is navigating deadly "instances," and the stakes are immediately high. I found myself intrigued by the curse aspect and the interdimensional travel elements. The story definitely has a certain charm, and the promise of a calm, clever protagonist piqued my interest.
What Works Well
The intricate scenarios and the dynamic between characters within those scenarios are a definite strength. I enjoyed trying to piece together the clues and understand the underlying mysteries of the world. The author does a great job of creating a sense of danger and suspense, which kept me engaged. However, the forced romantic relationship and the protagonist's sometimes-annoying cleverness detract from the overall experience.
