Description
A fantasy tale that revolves around colossi and El Dorado, brought to you by the author of 『Hataraku Maou-sama!』, Wagahara Satoshi! It is an era of change that was brought about by the discovery of the New World. A young man named Diego, who lived in the maritime nation of Spinea, was a researcher of the art of Onmyojutsu which was considered illegal. Due to that, he was attacked by a mysterious young woman who doubted the source of his powers, and even the Holy Church started to take an interest in him. Diego, who had no other options, decided to board a ship that was headed on a research expedition to the New World along with his long-time friend Alvaro. The New World had a Tree of Gold that towered over the surroundings, and the forests were protected by colossi. Waiting for the two of them there was the girl, Rera, who was confined in a prison of water. Diego was ordered by Captain Joaquin of the expeditionary force to use his Onmyojutsu and find a way to get her out. However when Rera awakens, the young lady who had attacked him in Spinea, Rozen, makes an appearance. She is the rider of the colossus 『Tankamui』. Is Diego going to get caught up in the great battle between the maritime nation and the natives—-?

My Thoughts on Diego no Kyojin
Alright, let's dive into "Diego no Kyojin." I've been poking around the web novel scene for a while now, and this one definitely piqued my interest. It's got that fantasy tag that always draws me in, and the "world travel" aspect hints at some potentially epic adventures.
First Impressions
My initial reaction was definitely positive, and I'm excited to see where the story goes. The premise is intriguing enough to pull you in, and I found myself wanting to know more about Diego and the world he inhabits.
What Works Well
One thing that immediately stood out to me was the setting. I'm always on the lookout for something different, and this novel seems to offer a refreshing change of pace. It's nice to step outside the typical Asian-inspired fantasy worlds we often see, not that there's anything wrong with them, but variety is the spice of life, right? The special abilities element is also well-done. It adds a layer of depth to the protagonist and the world, making it more engaging to explore.
Areas of Concern
While I'm generally optimistic, I do have a few minor reservations. With the novel still ongoing, it's hard to say for sure, but I hope the author maintains a steady pace of updates. I'm eager to see the world fleshed out further and the plot develop at a satisfying rate.
Final Verdict
Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic about "Diego no Kyojin." The unique setting and intriguing premise have definitely grabbed my attention. It's a promising start, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Diego's journey unfolds. If you're looking for a fantasy novel with a fresh perspective and a male protagonist with special abilities, this might be worth checking out. I'm definitely adding it to my reading list!
