Description
As an alluring beauty, the Ninth Prince Qi Changyi inherited his mother’s looks, but was unfortunately a bit s*upid. Not only did he live in fear, even within palace walls, but he also merely lived as a substitute in his beloved’s eyes. Then, while being used and tormented, his delicate, pure heart finally burned to ashes. Pei Zheng was the Prime Minister of the Imperial Court, a man of great status; he gained it all through the most ruthless methods. He was known for his cruel nature, but gradually, he became close to the unfavored ninth prince. “Your Highness, just now, at court, who were you looking at? Huh?” Pei Zheng squeezed the small man’s delicate little chin. Qi Changyi’s eyes were misty with tears of pain, “I, I wasn’t.” “Stop trying to seduce others.” Pei Zheng’s voice was frigid. “Otherwise, I’ll make sure that General Zhao, for whom you pine, dies on the battlefield!” He thought he had a firm grip on this little fool, but he could’ve never imagined that one day, this little fool would leave his side carrying a broken heart. “Brother Pei, I’m leaving now, you should be happy.” With scarlet eyes and a heart burning with obsession, he searched everywhere, but found no trace of him. “I won’t, without you, I’ll never be happy again. Your Highness, where should I go, how can I bring you home?”

My Thoughts on Dianxia Qingcheng
"Dianxia Qingcheng" is definitely a novel that evokes strong reactions, and after diving in, I can see why. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, with some truly compelling moments mixed with frustrating plot points and character decisions. It's a story that requires a certain level of tolerance for angst and a willingness to see past some problematic elements to appreciate the overall narrative.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn to the manhua adaptation, which led me to the original novel. Initially, I was intrigued by the dynamic between the prime minister and the young prince. The promise of a "wife-chasing crematorium" plot was appealing, but I quickly realized this story goes to some dark places. The early parts of the novel are definitely not for the faint of heart.
What Works Well
The redemption arc is where the novel shines. The author dedicates a significant portion of the story to the ML's journey of repentance, and I found this to be the most satisfying aspect of the novel. It's not a rushed or superficial redemption; he genuinely works to earn the MC's forgiveness and trust, which made the eventual happy ending feel earned. I also appreciated the character development of the MC, who grows and becomes more self-assured despite the hardships he faces. The side couples, though not always perfect, add depth and entertainment to the story.
Areas of Concern
However, the journey to that redemption is paved with some serious issues. The ML's actions in the first half of the novel can be downright abusive, and the MC's initial passivity can be frustrating. The plot can also feel repetitive at times, with cycles of hurt, manipulation, and superficial repentance. Some side characters and villains are also underdeveloped, appearing and disappearing without clear resolution. Some plot points felt rushed or illogical, requiring a suspension of disbelief to fully enjoy the story.

Final Verdict
"Dianxia Qingcheng" is a flawed but ultimately compelling novel. If you're willing to wade through the angst and problematic elements, the satisfying redemption arc and character development make it a worthwhile read. However, it's essential to be aware of the trigger warnings and to approach the story with a critical eye. I'd give it a tentative 3 out of 5 stars – enjoyable in parts, but with definite caveats.
