Description
Daiki Yanagi, a corporate s*ave working at a black company, gets off the train just before the last train. As he exits the station, he saves a beautiful woman from a nasty fall after she misses a step on the stairs. Shortly after, he encounters a beautiful woman struggling to gather the contents of her spilled bag in front of a luxury apartment building. As he helps her pick up her belongings, Daiki, exhausted from his daily grind, feels dizzy and collapses. He wakes up in a luxurious apartment, the home of the beautiful woman he helped earlier–Reika Kisaragi, a young and beautiful company president. He takes a shower and learns about what happened after he fainted. As lunchtime approaches, he finds himself being fed–by the beautiful older woman. “Delicious! I can’t believe you can make such amazing food with the limited ingredients in this house!” “Well, I am the son of a Western restaurant owner.” This encounter marks the beginning of a deepening relationship between the corporate s*ave and the young, beautiful president. “What? You can’t change jobs because you haven’t saved enough money? –Then why don’t you live here? You’ll save on rent.” “You should quit that company already. You don’t have to worry about living expenses while you’re here–okay?” “You know, you don’t have to work yet, right? You should rest a little longer, okay?” “Well, it’s been a month since I quit.” “It’s only been a month! You should rest for another… six months, no, a year!” “That’s too long!” Thus begins a battle between Daiki, who wants to work a normal job, and Reika, who wants him to stay at home (and cook for her). This is a romantic comedy for adults.

Initially, I was a little taken aback by the pacing. Some readers might find the beginning slow, as it dedicates a fair amount of time to establishing the characters and their circumstances. However, I felt this deliberate approach ultimately paid off, building a solid foundation for the relationship between Daiki and Reika. It's not a whirlwind romance; it's a slow burn, and I appreciated that.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in its realistic portrayal of the characters and their interactions. The conversations feel natural, and the development of their relationship is gradual and believable. It's refreshing to see a story where the characters become friends first, with deeper feelings blossoming organically over time. I found the themes of class differences and the pressures of Japanese work culture to be compelling and well-integrated into the narrative. And, if you're a foodie, prepare for some serious "food p*rn"! The descriptions of the meals Daiki cooks for Reika are mouthwatering. Daiki is also a very mature and reliable character, something I always appreciate. He's not a pushover, and he cares deeply about his colleagues.
Areas of Concern
My biggest concern is the update status. It seems the story hasn't been updated in quite a while, which is a real shame. Getting invested in a story only to find it abandoned is always disappointing. Also, one reader found the heavy focus on food and certain comedic elements to be off-putting, finding them neither funny nor amusing.
