My Thoughts on Circle of Inevitability
As a huge fan of web novels, I dove into "Circle of Inevitability" with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Sequels are always tricky, especially following a beloved work like "Lord of Mysteries." Would it live up to the hype? Would it feel fresh, or just a rehash of familiar themes? After spending considerable time with this novel, here are my thoughts.
First Impressions
Initially, I found myself struggling a bit. The new protagonist, Lumian, is quite different from Klein. While Klein was cunning and calculating, Lumian is more impulsive, more of a "shounen" type character. It took me a while to adjust to his style and the faster pace of the story. Unlike the first book where we slowly uncover the world and mysteries through Klein, this book throws us directly into high-level supernatural stuff. Some might find this jarring, but I eventually appreciated the shift, especially since the world-building foundation was already laid in the previous novel.
What Works Well
What ultimately won me over was the author's continued skill in crafting suspenseful plots and intriguing mysteries. The story expands beautifully on the established lore, with callbacks to previous events that deepen our understanding of the world. I also enjoyed the focus on teamwork and the dynamic between Lumian and his companions. The interactions between characters of different pathways really made the story more colorful and exciting. The unique power system is a standout, with the Lovecraftian horror vibes adding a layer of depth and intrigue.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed many aspects of the novel, I do have some reservations. Lumian's character development felt somewhat lacking at times. Unlike Klein, who felt relatable and complex, Lumian sometimes came across as one-dimensional. Also, the plot armor surrounding Lumian can feel a bit too strong, making him feel like he'll never die, even when targeted by higher-sequence powerhouses. The author also seemed to be aware of the fact that readers were complaining about the MC having too few standout moments.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Circle of Inevitability" is a worthwhile read, especially for fans of "Lord of Mysteries." While it may not reach the same heights as its predecessor, it still offers a compelling story, intriguing mysteries, and a fascinating world to explore. I'd recommend it, but with the caveat that it's a different kind of experience than the first book.
