Initially, I was drawn in by the concept of a cold, calculating protagonist forced into a system against his will. The setup is dark and intriguing, with a genius inventor seeking revenge and getting caught in a web of transmigration and predetermined plots. The early chapters grabbed my attention with the promise of a truly unfeeling MC.

What Works Well

The biggest strength of this novel lies in its main character, Chen Heng. He's a true anti-hero, intelligent and ruthless, with a distinct lack of empathy. His actions, while sometimes disturbing, are consistently fascinating. I particularly enjoyed how he manipulated situations to his advantage, often with a charming smile that belied his true intentions. The dynamic between Chen Heng and the male lead, Qi Wei, is equally compelling. Their relationship is far from conventional, filled with obsession, possessiveness, and a constant push and pull. The MC, while remaining intelligent, seemed to lose some of his initial edge, becoming more mellow and, dare I say, a bit generic towards the end. The introduction of a "curse" requiring physical intimacy felt like a somewhat forced plot device to soften the MC's character.
