On the surface, the female lead appeared pure and harmless, but in reality, she loathed Alphas. To her, every Alpha’s pheromones smelled absolutely revolting. As the novel unfolded, she would rise to power and drastically reduce Alphas’ social standing. Back when Zhuang Chi wrote all that, she had been full of excitement. Now that she had to live it… she realized her beautiful, dangerous creation was practically a ticking time bomb. For the sake of her own survival, Zhuang Chi prayed daily that she wouldn’t differentiate into an Alpha. Her wish: to become a Beta and live a peaceful, drama-free life. But fate had other plans. Not only did she differentiate into an Alpha, but immediately after, she got cornered in her dorm room by none other than the female lead herself , who looked at her with a calm, unreadable expression and said: “You probably won’t believe me, but… this world is actually a novel. Initially, I was hooked by the protagonist, Zhuang Chi's, relatable reactions to being thrust into the bizarre world she created. The early chapters do a good job of building anticipation and establishing the characters, especially the dynamic between Zhuang Chi and Gu Ximian. The ABO world-building, while familiar, felt fresh enough to keep me engaged. I found myself chuckling at the sheer absurdity of some of the plot points, clearly remnants of Zhuang Chi's "cringey" past.
What Works Well
The character development, particularly of the two leads, is a major strength. Zhuang Chi's gentle nature and eventual growth resonated with me. I also appreciated Gu Ximian's tsundere tendencies and the way she slowly warmed up to Zhuang Chi. The romance, while not a slow burn, felt natural and well-paced. The novel also touches upon stereotypes in the ABO world, adding a layer of depth beyond the comedic premise. The unique settings and the way the author integrated them into the story were also definite highlights. The side characters were well-developed and easily distinguishable, enriching the overall experience.
