"Addicted To You" promised a rollercoaster of emotions with its blend of drama and romance, and while it delivered on some fronts, I found myself occasionally questioning its execution. The story revolves around reunited lovers navigating past hurts and present-day challenges, a premise that certainly piqued my interest.
First Impressions
I was initially drawn in by the charismatic protagonist and the comedic undertones sprinkled throughout the narrative. The setup, with the leads reconnecting after a messy breakup, had all the ingredients for a compelling second-chance romance. However, as the story progressed, I began to notice some recurring issues that slightly detracted from my overall enjoyment.
What Works Well
The angst! I'm a sucker for a good, well-written angst, and I felt that the flashbacks to the leads' past relationship were genuinely moving. The author did a decent job of portraying the yearning and unresolved feelings between the main characters, especially when delving into the history of their romance. I also appreciated the heartwarming moments that peeked through the heavier themes, offering a glimpse of the potential happiness they could achieve.
Areas of Concern
My biggest hurdle was the believability of certain plot points. The frequency of "chance" encounters, especially in the early stages of the reunion, felt a bit contrived. It seemed like the author was pushing the leads together a little too forcefully, which made their interactions feel less organic. Also, the characters seemed to jump into a level of familiarity that didn't quite align with the circumstances of their past breakup. Simple things like walking the dog and cooking together so soon after their reunion struck me as odd, considering the tension and awkwardness that should have been present. Finally, I felt the story dragged on a little bit too long after the main couple got back together, which made the ending feel less impactful for me.

However, the reliance on coincidences and the occasionally rushed pacing made it a slightly uneven read for me. If you're willing to overlook some of the less believable aspects and embrace the rom-com logic, you might find yourself enjoying the sincere yearning at the heart of this story.
