Description
Shidou Rintaro, a high school student who aspires to be a full-time househusband, is in the same class as Otosaki Rei, a member of the popular idol group “Millefeuille Stars”. Rintaro, who has no deep interest in idols, accepts this as a fact and lives his life without any particular involvement. One day, a turning point came to him. Rintaro unintentionally helps Otosaki Rei after she unexpectedly collapses at the nearest station, and discovers that she is too hungry to move due to the rigorous lessons. Rintaro has no choice but to serve her a home-cooked meal and tell her that this is the end of their relationship. “I’ll pay 300,000 yen a month, and I’ll also pay for food for the two of us. So, please provide me with food every day.” Rintaro is wary of such a tempting offer, but as he gets to know her unclouded heart, the bond between them gradually deepens. As Rintaro is favored by other members of the Millefeuille Stars besides Otosaki, and saves them from their predicament, they become irreplaceable to each other. This is the story of a man and a woman who live in different worlds, but who eventually unite.

My Thoughts on A Very Popular Idol Classmate Has Taken a Liking to Me, A Person Who Doesn’t Want to Work for Whole Life
Alright, let's dive into "A Very Popular Idol Classmate Has Taken a Liking to Me, A Person Who Doesn’t Want to Work for Whole Life" – quite the mouthful, isn't it? I went in expecting a fluffy rom-com, and while it delivers on some fronts, it definitely has its quirks.
First Impressions
The premise is fairly standard: a seemingly average guy catches the eye of a popular idol. It's a trope I'm usually a sucker for, and initially, the story hooked me with its lighthearted tone. The interactions between the main characters felt genuinely sweet, and I was rooting for them. However, as the story progressed, some familiar issues started to surface.
What Works Well
I found the main characters surprisingly likable. The MC, despite his initial reluctance, isn't the stereotypical dense protagonist you often find in these stories. He has some self-esteem issues stemming from his past, but it doesn't completely define him. The female lead is also charming and supportive, and their interactions are genuinely cute. I especially appreciate the supporting cast, who add depth and humor to the narrative. The writing is also solid, and the translation is well-done, making for a smooth and enjoyable read.
Areas of Concern
One of my biggest issues is the introduction of multiple love interests. While I don't mind a bit of romantic tension, the story leans a little too heavily into the harem territory for my liking. It feels like it detracts from the main relationship and slows down the progress between the MC and the idol. I also found the "childhood promise" trope a bit overused and the MC's slowness to recognize it frustrating at times.

Final Verdict
Overall, "A Very Popular Idol Classmate Has Taken a Liking to Me, A Person Who Doesn’t Want to Work for Whole Life" is a decent read if you're looking for a lighthearted rom-com with likable characters. However, be prepared for some potentially frustrating tropes and plot developments. If you're not a fan of harems or dense protagonists, this might not be the story for you. I'd give it a cautious recommendation – go in with tempered expectations and you might find yourself enjoying the fluff.
