"White-Robed Chief" is a bit of a mixed bag, and my experience reading it mirrored the opinions I've seen floating around. It has moments of brilliance and frustrating dips that kept me from fully embracing it. While the premise intrigued me, the execution felt uneven at times.

The MC's strategic mind is definitely a strong point. I appreciated that he wasn't just another muscle-bound cultivator, relying instead on cunning schemes and political maneuvering. I found myself enjoying the non-cardboard characters and the fact that the story didn't always revolve solely around the protagonist. Unfortunately, the novel suffers from some significant flaws. The translation inconsistencies are a major issue, with names and terms changing randomly, leading to confusion and frustration. I also felt that the MC's supposed scientific background became largely irrelevant, serving only as a superficial justification for his intelligence. The harem elements are also a bit problematic. While the MC seems to grow out of his initial "harem-seeking" phase, the story still falls into the trap of portraying every female character as exceptionally beautiful, and their beauty often becomes a reason for plot contrivances. There are also some issues with the MC making nonsensical decisions.

"White-Robed Chief" has potential, and I can see why some readers are drawn to its political intrigue and clever protagonist. However, the inconsistent translation, underutilized science background, and harem tropes hold it back. It's a decent read if you're looking for a wuxia political drama, but be prepared to overlook its flaws. I'd give it a 3/5.
