The premise of childhood sweethearts and a doting younger love interest immediately grabbed my attention. The tags promised a cute and comforting story, and I was ready for some lighthearted fluff. From the beginning, I was drawn into the world and invested in the couple's relationship.
What Works Well
The undeniable strength of this novel lies in the sweetness of the romance. The love between the protagonists is portrayed as unconditional and enduring, which made for a genuinely enjoyable read. I found myself rooting for them every step of the way, and the "love interest falls in love first" trope was well-executed, adding an extra layer of charm. The story is well-written and does a great job of establishing the connection between the main characters.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue, and I think many readers would agree, is the abrupt ending. It felt like the story was cut short just as things were getting really interesting. We see an engagement, but then... nothing. I was left craving a glimpse into their future, especially regarding how they would navigate telling her parents about their relationship, since they hadn't even met him yet! A few more chapters exploring the aftermath of the engagement and their next steps would have significantly enhanced the overall experience. The only real conflict seemed to stem from the female lead's former roommate, which felt a little shallow compared to the potential for deeper relationship development.
