Description
Welcome to the grand real-life escape room – Thriller City, where everyone faces the judgment of death. Nestled like a beehive, this place is home to countless endless stream players. They frantically grind through infinite copies, earning points in a desperate bid to survive. Every day, ranking data is announced over the city’s skies. Copy hunting is broadcast live globally. Pei Yi, a corporate s*ave in massive debt, in pursuit of his salary, stumbles into an old black building, where bizarre events unfold. Cold-blooded zombies fill the building, a woman crawls upside down, and death photographs abound… At first, nobody had high hopes for Pei Yi – with mediocre education, brawny but often confrontational. “Really too ordinary, has the vibe of a cannon fodder.” “Nothing to his name but a handsome face.” The whole world waited for his downfall – Pei Yi, with a warm smile: “Heh.” Later, Pei Yi’s name dominated all endless stream leaderboards, his name plastered on screens worldwide. Countless players looked up in awe as a sweet mechanical female voice announced: “Thriller S City’s 740th newcomer champion, Pei Yi, with an S++++ perfect performance in Black Tower Horror. Enjoy seven days of continuous screen display! Congratulations, Pei Yi.” The entire endless stream world thought they were welcoming just another prey, but they later realized – He was their savior, the only one who could slay gods, a fallen angel, their deity.

My Thoughts on Thriller City, The Godslaying Game
"Thriller City, The Godslaying Game" plunges you into a world of deadly games and supernatural horrors, with a confident protagonist navigating a ranking system fueled by livestreaming. As I dove into this novel, I found myself both intrigued and, at times, a little frustrated. It's a rollercoaster, to say the least.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise and the dynamic between the main characters, Pei Yi (PY) and LZC. The early arcs promised a clash of personalities, with PY's impulsive nature contrasting sharply with LZC's calm and calculated approach. This created a compelling tension that kept me turning the pages.
What Works Well
The author clearly has a knack for creating unique and novel game scenarios. I appreciated the creativity poured into each instance, even if the execution sometimes felt a little rough around the edges. PY's character development, though turbulent, is also a strong point. Watching him grapple with his flaws, especially his pride and impulsiveness, felt realistic and relatable. His initial arrogance and hot-headedness slowly give way to a more nuanced and cooperative attitude, making him a compelling character to follow, even when he's frustrating. Also, the livestreaming aspect adds a unique layer to the story, highlighting the pressure PY feels and how he deals with public perception.
Areas of Concern
However, as the story progressed, I did find myself agreeing with some of the criticisms. The pacing can feel uneven, and some plot points didn't quite land as impactfully as they could have. The later arcs, especially around chapter 90+, seemed to lose some of the initial spark. The romance, or lack thereof, was also a point of contention for me. While I appreciate the focus on character development and the game aspects, the romantic connection between PY and LZC felt underdeveloped and, at times, forced. The ending, too, left me wanting more, with its open-ended nature feeling more unsatisfactory than intriguing.

Final Verdict
"Thriller City, The Godslaying Game" is a mixed bag. It boasts a creative premise, compelling characters, and exciting action, but suffers from uneven pacing, underdeveloped romance, and a somewhat disappointing ending. If you're looking for a perfectly polished novel, this might not be it. However, if you're willing to embrace its flaws and enjoy the ride, there's plenty to appreciate here. I'd recommend giving it a try, but be prepared for a somewhat bumpy journey.
