My Thoughts on The World That Tao Rules
Alright, let's dive into "The World That Tao Rules." After spending some time with this web novel, I've got some thoughts I want to share. It's a bit of a mixed bag, so buckle up.
First Impressions
Initially, the story pulled me in with its familiar Xianxia setup. We've got a male protagonist, adopted into a demon sect, who's starting from a relatively weak position and aiming for the top. The first few chapters were decent enough, drawing me in with the promise of adventure and cultivation.
What Works Well
The adventure aspect of the story is definitely a strong point. The author does a reasonable job of throwing the MC into various situations that at least kept me somewhat engaged. I also appreciated that the side characters had enough personality to stand out, making the world feel a little more alive.
Areas of Concern
However, as I continued reading, some glaring issues started to surface. The plot often felt contrived, with the MC stumbling into trouble seemingly for the sake of creating conflict. I found myself questioning the logic behind many of the events, especially regarding the villains. They often came across as one-dimensional and overly arrogant, resorting to petty feuds over minor offenses.
The pacing also became a problem. I noticed a lack of payoff when it came to dealing with antagonists. Some of the initial "arrogant young masters" remained relevant far longer than I expected, leading to frustration. The "weak to strong" progression felt rushed at times, with the MC suddenly gaining power after time skips, which made the power-ups feel unearned.
Final Verdict
"The World That Tao Rules" has potential, but it suffers from familiar Xianxia tropes and some questionable writing choices. While the adventure elements and somewhat distinct side characters offer glimpses of promise, the generic plot, frustrating villains, and rushed power progression ultimately hold it back. If you're new to the genre, it might be an okay starting point, but seasoned readers will likely find it repetitive and uninspired.
