The premise is interesting: Tang Zhou has a glimpse into a future where he's cannon fodder and Fu Shen is a villain. But honestly, that part of the story felt more like a setup than a driving force. It served as a catalyst for Tang Zhou to re-evaluate his life and approach Fu Shen differently, which I appreciated.
What Works Well
The biggest strength of this novel is the central relationship. Tang Zhou and Fu Shen are both compelling characters, each with their own vulnerabilities and strengths. I particularly enjoyed how their romance developed naturally, built on mutual respect and understanding. It's a refreshing change from some of the more overbearing ML characters you often find in danmei. I was happy to see them respect each other's ambitions and feelings.
Many readers praised the "dog food" – the sweet, loving interactions between the two. And yes, it's definitely there! It's the kind of story that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. I also appreciated the story's focus on healing emotional wounds, particularly given the characters' difficult childhoods.
