Description
Once upon a time, there was an assassin who became unemployed. As his pocket grew thinner, he decided to go around and offered his services like a door-to-door salesman, “Do you have any enemy? One head is one hundred taels.” It was such a good offer, yet for some reason, no one took it until… “Do you have any enemy? One head is one…fifty taels.” “I don’t have any enemy, but I can hire you as my bodyguard.” “Assassins also have their pride.” “Fifty taels a month, food and accommodation included.” “Deal!” Ever since the assassin became unemployed, a silly short story was born.

My Thoughts on The Unemployed Assassin
This was a delightful little story! "The Unemployed Assassin" is a short, sweet, and undeniably cute read that I breezed through in one sitting. If you're looking for something light and fluffy to cleanse your palate after a heavier novel, or just need a quick dose of heartwarming romance, this might be exactly what you're searching for.
First Impressions
From the very beginning, I was charmed by the dynamic between Zhao Feishuang, the endearingly naive assassin, and Zhao Huai, his supposedly unlucky employer. The premise itself is quite funny – an assassin who's never actually killed anyone finding himself employed by a mischievous and wealthy man. It definitely had me hooked right away.
What Works Well
The story's greatest strength lies in its simplicity and the delightful interactions between the main characters. The author does a fantastic job of portraying their burgeoning relationship, even within the limited number of chapters. I particularly enjoyed the humor and the way the story subverted some common tropes. The fact that the seemingly pampered ML is the one who's willing to take on the "wife" role to fulfill the MC's dreams is just adorable and a refreshing twist. The story is a welcome break from heavier, angst-filled narratives. It's a perfect palate cleanser when you need a dose of uncomplicated sweetness.
Areas of Concern
If I had to point out a flaw, it would be the pacing. Given the novel's brevity, the romance does feel a bit rushed. While I personally didn't mind it too much, I can understand why some might find the ML's sudden infatuation a little abrupt. The story could have benefited from a few more chapters to flesh out the characters' backstories and develop the romance more gradually, but I can't complain too much about wanting more of a good thing!

Final Verdict
Despite its short length and slightly rushed romance, "The Unemployed Assassin" is an utterly charming and enjoyable read. If you're in the mood for a quick, fluffy, and heartwarming story with a touch of humor and adorable characters, I highly recommend giving it a try. It's the perfect little treat to brighten your day.
