"I Picked Up a Merman" is exactly what it advertises itself to be: a light, fluffy, and undeniably adorable romance. It's a danmei story that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's perfectly okay. I went in expecting a sweet escape, and that's largely what I got.

His innocent, puppy-like personality is endearing, and it's easy to root for him as he navigates the human world.
