I dove into "The Supporting Female Character Is Not Behaving Again" with high hopes, and while it didn't completely blow me away, it definitely offered some enjoyable moments. The premise of a cultivator traversing different worlds to fulfill wishes is always appealing, and this novel certainly has its own unique spin.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, I appreciated the no-nonsense attitude of the protagonist, Meng Changjin. She's strong, smart, and doesn't shy away from solving problems with a bit of...physical persuasion when necessary. The initial arcs grabbed my attention, particularly the first one where she's a rural 1990s daughter-in-law seeking a divorce. It was a solid start that showcased her resourcefulness and willingness to adapt.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is Meng Changjin herself. She's not a robot, which is a trap that some authors fall into when writing "cold" protagonists. I found her relatively normal and relatable, even with her cultivation background. The variety of arcs kept things interesting, from ancient farm life to an apocalyptic world with a yandere male lead. I also liked that she isn't obsessed with living, unlike some other protagonists. The fish system, Xiao Si, also added a touch of humor, which was a welcome addition.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed many aspects, I do have some reservations. At times, the writing felt a bit sloppy, and some arcs ended in a way that felt anti-climactic. Even though the protagonist isn't omnipotent, her struggles in the early stages of each world could be frustrating. The ending also felt rushed.
