The heart of this story lies in the relationship between the prince (MC) and his demon-slaying "secret servant" (ML). Their dynamic is genuinely entertaining, filled with witty banter and a delightful push-and-pull as they navigate their feelings for each other. I especially appreciated how the author developed their relationship over time, with plenty of "showing" rather than just "telling."
The story also weaves in elements of Chinese folklore and mythology, which adds a layer of richness and intrigue. I found myself captivated by the world-building and the various supernatural creatures that populated the narrative. The side characters were also a highlight, particularly the demon slayers, and I was so invested in their stories.
