My Thoughts on The Poor Little Thing was Marked by The Obsessive Enigma
This ABO novel is definitely a mixed bag, but I ultimately found it a decent way to spend my time, even if it wasn't groundbreaking. It's the kind of story where you know exactly where it's going, and the journey is more about the fluff than any real plot twists.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, the story plunges you into a world of alphas, omegas, and enigmas, with our poor omega MC caught in a pretty terrible situation. His family treats him like property, and his initial engagement is a disaster waiting to happen. It's a familiar set-up, but I was curious to see how he'd escape his circumstances.
What Works Well
The biggest draw, for me, was the ML, the "Obsessive Enigma" himself. He's incredibly devoted to the MC, offering a stark contrast to the neglect and abuse the MC experiences from his family. I appreciated how the story focused on their relationship, with the ML helping the MC grow and find his own strength. I also found the unique way the author handled intimate moments by using scents and pheromones to be a nice touch. It allowed the story to avoid being overly explicit while still conveying the emotional connection between the characters.
Areas of Concern
Honestly, there were times when I got frustrated. The MC's constant need to be rescued, coupled with his extreme submissiveness, wore thin after a while. It felt like he wasn't given much agency, and the dynamic sometimes leaned a bit too much into a father-child relationship. The villains also felt very one-dimensional, existing solely to make the MC's life miserable. The length of the story was also an issue. There were many moments where the plot dragged, and I felt like certain scenes could have been trimmed down without losing anything important.

"The Poor Little Thing was Marked by The Obsessive Enigma" is a fairly enjoyable read if you're in the mood for a cliché-filled ABO romance with a doting ML. It's not perfect, and the MC's lack of agency and the repetitive plot points can be frustrating. However, if you're willing to overlook its flaws and embrace the fluff, it can be a decent way to pass the time. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
