"The CEO’s Cute and Delicate Daughter" promised a heartwarming story, and for the most part, it delivered. While it has its flaws, the novel's strengths, particularly the familial bonds, made it a worthwhile read for me.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise: a josei drama seen through the eyes of an adorable child. It felt like a refreshing twist on a familiar trope. The first few chapters were a bit rough, but I'm glad I stuck with it because the story definitely improves as it goes on.
What Works Well
The core of this novel is undoubtedly the heartwarming family interactions. The father-daughter relationship between Yu Mengmeng and He Zhongyuan is the true star. I found myself completely invested in their bond and enjoyed watching Mengmeng coach her CEO father on how to properly woo her mother, avoiding all those stereotypical novel misunderstandings. The friendships Mengmeng cultivates are also a highlight, creating a warm and supportive environment as she grows. Many readers will find the lack of intense drama to be a plus, if you're looking for something easy to read and fluffy, I think you might enjoy this novel.
Areas of Concern
The pacing towards the end felt rushed, and some plot threads were left dangling. Several characters, including some of Mengmeng's childhood friends, simply vanished without a proper resolution. Ling Huan's character arc, in particular, felt underdeveloped, and the reason for his rebellious phase remained unclear. I also felt that Mengmeng's twin brother, Yu Hao, could have been given more depth and a more significant role in the story.
