"The Capture of Redvein" is a novel that definitely left me with a lot to think about. Diving into this adult psychological yaoi, I found myself on an emotional rollercoaster, grappling with complex characters and a rather unique premise.
First Impressions
The story immediately throws you into a world dealing with the mysterious Redvein disease, which is a fascinating and somewhat disturbing concept. The initial setup, with Zhong Ai's unrequited crush and Shen Wu Nian's manipulative entrance, pulled me in. I was intrigued to see how the relationship between these characters would unfold, especially given the power dynamics at play.
What Works Well
I appreciated the author's ability to create characters with depth and flaws. Zhong Ai, despite his naivete and low self-esteem stemming from a difficult past, manages to maintain a sense of positivity. The author's writing style is also quite immersive, and the metaphors used in the more intimate scenes are particularly memorable and creative. The inclusion of strong female characters, like Zhong Ai's senior, adds a welcome layer of positivity to the narrative.
Areas of Concern
While the story is engaging, there are some problematic elements that I couldn't ignore. The non-con scenes, including drugging and r@p3, are definitely triggers and weren't adequately tagged.
