"Synthesis Wizard" promised a unique take on the wizarding world, and after diving in, I found it to be a mixed bag, albeit a generally enjoyable one. The premise itself is intriguing, and the execution is... well, let's get into it.

My initial reaction was positive. The early chapters hooked me with the promise of a determined protagonist and a unique system. The world-building is solid, and the core concept of synthesis – crafting and combining elements – felt fresh. I was eager to see how the main character would develop and what challenges he would face.
What Works Well
One of the strongest points is the protagonist's growth. Watching him evolve from a knight to a powerful wizard is satisfying. The power progression feels earned, and the crafting aspect keeps things interesting. I also appreciated the absence of romance; it allowed the story to focus on the protagonist's ambitions and his relationships with his family and friends. The platonic brotherly love, in particular, was a welcome addition. The action sequences are well-written and the research done by the MC into upgrading his kingdom/himself is fun to read.
Areas of Concern
However, there are some areas where the novel falls short. The translation quality is a significant issue, making it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story. The "cheats" the protagonist receives might feel excessive. While some enjoy an OP MC, the lack of genuine challenges or setbacks can make the story feel less engaging. The protagonist rarely faces defeat or needs to run for his life, which reduces the tension. Additionally, the story sometimes feels like it borrows heavily from other Chinese wizard novels, which can be a bit of a turn-off if you're familiar with the genre.

Overall, "Synthesis Wizard" is a decent read, especially if you enjoy action-packed fantasy with an OP protagonist and a focus on crafting and alchemy.
