My Thoughts on Super Soldier
"Super Soldier" is a web novel that throws a lot at the wall, hoping something sticks. With a cocktail of genres like action, sci-fi, fantasy, and even a dash of ecchi, it aims for a broad audience. However, my experience reading it was a bit of a mixed bag.
First Impressions
The initial chapters pulled me in with the promise of a protagonist grappling with his past as a super soldier. The revenge angle, coupled with the potential for high-octane action, seemed promising. The female lead was introduced and I thought there was potential, but that quickly faded.
What Works Well
The sheer ambition of the story is commendable. It's clear the author has a lot of ideas and isn't afraid to try and blend different genres. The action sequences, when they hit, are engaging and showcase the protagonist's abilities effectively. I can see why some readers might be drawn to the power fantasy aspect of the story.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, several aspects of the narrative fell flat for me. The pacing felt rushed, and character development seemed sacrificed for the sake of plot progression. Relationships, in particular, felt forced and lacked the emotional depth needed to resonate. I struggled to connect with the characters, which made it difficult to invest in their struggles or triumphs. Worldbuilding seemed inconsistent, and several plot points felt contrived or illogical. These issues detracted significantly from my overall enjoyment.
