My Thoughts on Soon To Die
"Soon To Die" promised a blend of horror, romance, and the supernatural with a yaoi twist, and after diving in, I found it to be a mostly enjoyable experience. The story revolves around Lu Wenxi, a confident and somewhat arrogant star, and Xu Chen, a younger, initially cold but ultimately gentle love interest with a sheltered past.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn to the unique premise. A star navigating the entertainment world while dealing with supernatural occurrences? Intriguing! The contrast between Lu Wenxi's world of fame and Xu Chen's secluded existence added an interesting layer to their relationship. The initial chapters set the stage well, hinting at both the ghostly encounters and the budding romance.
What Works Well
The character development is definitely a strong point. Lu Wenxi's progress throughout the story is commendable; I particularly appreciated his straightforward approach to his feelings. Xu Chen's journey from a naive outsider to a more worldly individual was also well-executed. His initial innocence, especially regarding modern technology, was quite endearing. I also liked how the supernatural elements took center stage early on, driving the plot forward while the entertainment aspect developed more gradually. The plot arcs were engaging and, for the most part, well-connected. The author did a great job of making each character unique and memorable.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overarching story, I did notice some gaps in the narrative within certain arcs. I found myself double-checking for missing chapters, but it seems the story was written with these slight jumps. It wasn't a major detraction, but it did occasionally disrupt the flow.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Soon To Die" is a worthwhile read. The blend of genres is handled well, the characters are compelling, and the romance is sweet without being overly angsty. Despite some minor pacing issues, the story kept me engaged, and I found myself rooting for Lu Wenxi and Xu Chen. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a supernatural romance with a good dose of character development.
