I was immediately drawn in by the female lead, Mei Li. Her journey from a hopeful young woman to someone marked by hardship is truly heartbreaking. The story throws you right into the thick of things, and I quickly became invested in her fate. I will say the story can feel a bit incomplete at times due to its heavy reliance on Mei Li's perspective. However, I found this made the story more endearing and her character more human.

What Works Well

He is a Grade A as*hole. His initial cruelty and selfishness set the stage for much of the tragedy that unfolds, and it can be frustrating to watch.
