"Seizing the Wrong Person" promised a comedic transmigration story with a mistaken-identity twist, and for the most part, it delivered. I went in expecting a lighthearted read with some potentially dramatic moments, and I wasn't disappointed. It's not groundbreaking, but it's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a fun yaoi novel.
First Impressions
The initial premise is intriguing: our protagonist transmigrates and immediately identifies the wrong target for his mission. This sets the stage for potential chaos and misunderstandings, which the story definitely capitalizes on. The beginning is a bit slow, but I appreciated the slow-burn romance that gradually developed between the MC and ML.
What Works Well
The relationship between the main characters is the highlight. I found their interactions believable and engaging. They actually communicate, which is refreshing! Once they get together, their dynamic is one of equals, supporting each other and respecting each other's individuality. I especially liked the MC's business acumen shining through, even though he tries to avoid the corporate world. The story is also good at resolving conflicts quickly, which keeps the plot moving at a decent pace. While the side characters are a bit two-dimensional, they serve their purpose, adding humor and support to the main couple.
Areas of Concern
My main issue, and it seems I'm not alone in this, is the system. Its constant interruptions and commentary are jarring and often detract from the flow of the story. It feels like a cheap plot device, and I often found myself ignoring its dialogue to better enjoy the interactions between the MC and ML. Also, the MC's background remains somewhat mysterious. I would have liked to see more development of his past life to better understand his motivations.
