Saint, You’re So Vulgar! Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator
My Thoughts on Saint, You’re So Vulgar!
"Saint, You're So Vulgar!" is a web novel that throws you headfirst into a whirlwind of body-swapping shenanigans, and honestly, I found myself surprisingly entertained. It's a blend of fantasy, romance, and comedy, with a dash of ecchi thrown in for good measure. While it has its quirks, the charm of the characters and the unfolding plot kept me hooked.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely a hook. We have Usher, a dedicated knight, finally achieving his dream of serving the saintess, Bersia. Then bam! Body swap. Suddenly, Usher is in Bersia's body, discovering she's not quite the pure, innocent saint he imagined. And Bersia? Well, she's now a tomboyish yandere stuck in her knight's body, and enjoys teasing the poor Usher. The title is definitely accurate, but the raunchiness takes a backseat as the story progresses.
What Works Well
The character dynamics are the heart of this story. Usher, despite being initially presented as a bit of a pushover, is a genuinely good person. His innocence and earnestness, ironically, make him incredibly effective as a saintess, winning over hearts and minds. Bersia's character is equally compelling. Beneath her vulgar exterior lies a complex individual, and it's heartwarming to watch Usher slowly chip away at her defenses. I found myself rooting for their unconventional relationship to blossom. The world-building is also noteworthy. The nuances of the church and the roles of the saintesses add depth to the narrative. The side characters are surprisingly well-developed, adding richness to the overall story.
Areas of Concern
The initial chapters rely heavily on lewd jokes, which can become repetitive and grating. While the humor mellows out as the story progresses, it might be a hurdle for some readers. Also, the plot can sometimes feel secondary to the romance. I personally would have preferred a stronger focus on the overarching story, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Saint, You're So Vulgar!" is a fun and engaging read. The body-swap premise is executed well, and the characters are endearing. If you're willing to overlook the initial reliance on lewd humor and are looking for a character-driven story with a healthy dose of romance, I'd recommend giving it a try. I'd rate it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
