Description
After becoming a freshman majoring in Cryptography, Li Landao was informed of an arranged marriage with the Dan family, the top financial conglomerate in the Imperial Capital. At first, he thought it was media gossip. However, his grandfather actually said it was true, and it was a childhood engagement. Grandpa is committed to cultivating ordinary people who stay away from the life of financial conglomerates. If he were to personally choose a suitable marriage partner for him, he should choose someone gentle and stable. But Grandpa chose the most uncontrollable person: Dan Xiao. The peaceful college life was heading towards a dangerous, irreversible path. On the first night after arriving in the Imperial Capital, Li Landao saw Dan Xiao being brought back by his father’s right-hand man, his white shirt covered in a spray of blood. Under the streetlight, his profile was expressionless, and he walked carelessly, but suddenly shifted his gaze, looking directly at Li Landao upstairs. After their eyes met, Li Landao quickly scrambled back into bed. …Damn it. This young master is going to escape the marriage! Question: How to peacefully coexist with a husband who has a performative personality and antisocial personality? Li Landao’s answer: Don’t coexist. Unfortunately, due to interests and cryptography, they had to pretend to be loving in the intelligence department to cover their tracks. This was just a marriage alliance that didn’t involve feelings, but things were gradually becoming perverse. —The most failed and ruthless marriage alliance record in history— Dan Xiao: Boring. I’m not gay. Li Landao: I’m numerosexually, academically, and cryptographically inclined. Dan Xiao: Go to the cryptography seminar by yourself. Li Landao: Okay. As a result, Li Landao was cornered by Dan Xiao in the restroom and had his clothes lifted. Reason for failure: Academic exchange became too intimate. Li Landao glanced at a handsome blonde at a reception. Dan Xiao, with a cold face: You’ve breached the contract. Dan Xiao: We agreed you wouldn’t cheat. Reason for failure: An enemy used a honey trap. Li Landao: Should we just get a divorce? Dan Xiao immediately put the agreement into the shredder: Not a chance. One is the sharpest blade of the conglomerate family, and the other is the orphaned son of former genius cryptographers. Their titles sound grand, but they hold little real power. Moreover, Dan Xiao is not Old Man Dan’s biological grandson; he’s just a nominal member of the Dan family. But Li Landao never expected to receive a letter from the Duke’s family one day. It stated a noble title awarded for his spouse. Li Landao: ? Dan Xiao: ^_^ A friend, upon learning that they were in a family alliance, asked: So you have no interest in each other? Dan Xiao: That was my original plan. Li Landao: Then what are you rubbing against now? Li Landao: Did I do you last night? Fake it ’til you make it + marriage in name only, falling in love later + dog-training literature. Li Landao: How can he be so clingy-!- A “home dog” attack dog who can engage in gang fights without shedding blood and can also enjoy private chef meals three times a day, versus a quick-witted, complaining, scene-controlling bottom whose brain circuit is strange, capable of researching physics and astronomy and also managing his actor husband.

My Thoughts on Records of Failed Marriages Between Chaebols
"Records of Failed Marriages Between Chaebols" promised a wild ride of arranged marriage shenanigans, and for the most part, it delivered. While it didn't completely blow me away, I found myself drawn into the unique blend of comedy, drama, and romance. The "school life" tag felt a little misleading, but the overall experience was still enjoyable.
First Impressions
The beginning was a bit rough, I'll admit. It felt like I was thrown into the deep end of a pool without floaties. However, I soon realized that the initial chaos was intentional, setting the stage for the spy-versus-spy dynamic that unfolds. The premise itself is intriguing: a fake marriage with a healthy dose of espionage, cryptology, and a dash of something sinister lurking beneath the surface.
What Works Well
Once I got past the initial bumpy start, I was hooked. The plot thickens beautifully, and the slow reveal of the characters' backstories kept me invested. I particularly enjoyed the moments when the MC and ML finally started to understand each other, culminating in a heartfelt confession that felt earned. The novel definitely has a unique flavor, mashing together elements of a "Yakuza Bride" story, a BL romance, and "The Imitation Game" with a fictional/alternate history backdrop. The male leads were compelling, and the world building was well done. The story has a good mix of action, intrigue, romance, spiciness, and passion. As the plot progresses, the MC and ML's personalities become more stable. The experiences of both the MC and ML's parents were heartbreaking yet noble.
Areas of Concern
I can see why some readers might find the initial pacing jarring, and I agree that the lack of epilogues left me wanting more.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Records of Failed Marriages Between Chaebols" is a worthwhile read if you're looking for something a little different. It's not perfect, but the engaging plot, intriguing characters, and unique blend of genres make it a solid choice. Just be aware of the potential trigger warning mentioned above. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
