"Rebirth: Return Position" promised a second chance at life, a trope I usually devour. This novel dips its toes into drama, historical settings, and a sprinkle of romance, all set in ancient China. The premise is captivating: Qiongnang, betrayed in her previous life, gets a do-over and vows to live differently. While the initial setup grabbed my attention, my overall experience was somewhat mixed.

The opening chapters immediately throw you into the deep end with Qiongnang's dramatic demise and subsequent rebirth. I was immediately drawn to the idea of her navigating a second life, especially with the added layer of a reborn antagonist. The early focus on her family and her desire to create genuine connections was a welcome change from the often cutthroat narratives of similar stories.

What Works Well

I particularly enjoyed the protagonist's growth and the development of her familial relationships. Qiongnang's intelligence and positive attitude were inspiring, and her dedication to her family added a heartwarming element. Also, the business aspects of the story, particularly the vegetarian restaurant, were quite engaging.

It made it difficult for me to fully invest in their romance, especially with his initial disregard for her consent and reputation. While some readers might find his character development redeeming, I struggled to reconcile his early actions with a healthy romantic relationship.
