"Rebirth of the Charming Girl in Space" is a lengthy journey through ancient China with a resourceful female lead, Murong Lingran, who gets a second chance at life, and a space to boot. It's a classic transmigration tale with farming elements, a dash of romance, and a heavy dose of family drama. Did it keep me hooked? Mostly, but with some caveats.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely intriguing. Murong Lingran's journey from a coma-stricken girl in ancient times to a modern woman and back again is an interesting hook. Her family's initial plight – exiled, impoverished, and desperate – immediately pulled me in, and I was ready to root for them. The introduction of the space with its potential for farming and resourcefulness added a unique twist to the typical "poor-to-rich" narrative.
What Works Well
The family dynamic is a major strength. Murong Lingran's family is loving and supportive, a refreshing change from some of the more dysfunctional families you often find in web novels. The male lead, who turns out to be the Emperor, is also a stand-out character. He's portrayed as responsible, playful, and upfront, which makes his interactions with Murong Lingran and her family enjoyable to read. I also appreciated that Murong Lingran wasn't an overpowered Mary Sue. She has her skills and talents, but she also relies on her family, her wits, and the occasional help from the mysterious god within her space.
Areas of Concern
Despite its strengths, the novel does have some pacing issues. At over 3000 chapters, it can feel a bit long-winded, and I can see why some readers felt the ending was rushed and unsatisfying. Some plot points felt underdeveloped, and some characters, particularly the annoying relatives, could grate on your nerves after a while.
