The premise is simple: Su Mu Yun, our FL, is jilted by her fiancé, Xie Shen Zhi, who falls for another woman. Instead of wallowing, she makes a strategic decision to marry his elder brother, Xie Wang Zhi, who has a less-than-stellar reputation. I was intrigued by this setup and eager to see how the relationship between Su Mu Yun and Xie Wang Zhi would unfold.
What Works Well
What I appreciated most was the FL's character development. She doesn't crumble under heartbreak; instead, she analyzes her feelings and recognizes that her devotion to her former fiancé might have been misplaced. I found her self-awareness refreshing, especially when she acknowledges that she might have been more in love with the idea of Xie Shen Zhi than with him as a person.
The romance between Su Mu Yun and Xie Wang Zhi is a slow burn, and I enjoyed watching their connection deepen as they navigated their arranged marriage. I also found myself rooting for them. The story also explores the theme of regret through the ex-fiancé's perspective, which I felt added another layer to the story.
