First Impressions

Okay, so the title is a mouthful, right? But it definitely grabbed my attention. The premise of a girl trying to tease a guy into falling for her, only to fall herself, is a classic rom-com setup, and I was curious to see how this novel would execute it. Going in, I was hoping for some genuinely funny moments and a heartwarming romance.

What Works Well

There's a lot to enjoy here, especially if you're a fan of the genre. The dynamic between the male lead (ML) and female lead (FL) is a definite highlight. I really appreciate how the ML isn't your typical, easily flustered protagonist. His calm, almost nonchalant attitude towards the FL's teasing creates some genuinely funny interactions. The humor, when it lands, is pretty great, and the characters have a good dynamic. I also like that the characters feel realistic, with age-appropriate moments of immaturity and inexperience.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed aspects of the story, I also had some reservations. The ML's constant misunderstandings of the FL's intentions can get frustrating. I'm not usually a fan of plots heavily reliant on misunderstandings, and this novel leans into that trope pretty hard. It feels like his perception of her is based more on what his friend says rather than his own observations, which can be a bit annoying. I also felt like there were some translation issues that diminished the impact of comedic back-and-forths.
