Description
Zheng Shanci transmigrated into a novel—and became the cannon fodder husband of the villainous supporting role, Yu Lanyi. In the original plot, due to a twist of fate, the original Zheng Shanci married Yu Lanyi. After moving to a small county town, Yu Lanyi constantly ridiculed and looked down on his husband. In the end, the husband couldn’t take it anymore and conspired with his close confidant to kill Yu Lanyi. Now, Zheng Shanci finds himself caught in a scandal at a banquet—locked in the same room as Yu Lanyi. Yu Lanyi had planned to trap the male lead in a compromising situation with himself but ended up locking in the wrong person. With his sleeve covering his face, he glares at Zheng Shanci furiously. Amidst everyone’s accusations, Zheng Shanci grits his teeth and says: “I’ll marry him.” Zheng Shanci feels bitterness in his mouth. This person is the definition of a drama queen—a pampered noble heir of the Marquis household, arrogant and spoiled. Meanwhile, he himself is a third-rank scholar from a humble background, just about to take his post in a small county. They were to marry in the capital and then head off together to the rural county. Zheng Shanci: “…Well, this is going to be a wonderfully chaotic life.” *** Yu Lanyi, the legitimate young master of the Marquis of Changyang, is of noble birth. He prefers someone handsome, well-born, refined, and powerful. At first glance, he sets his sights on the male lead and tries to create a scandal at the banquet—arranging a situation where two men are caught alone together. But he locks in the wrong guy. Now, to protect his reputation, he has no choice but to reluctantly marry this poor scholar. Yu Lanyi: “But… he’s only a third-rank scholar!” And he’s expected to move to some remote county after the wedding?! He doesn’t want to suffer—he wants the good life! So Yu Lanyi leaves the capital in tears. Day 1 in the county: He falls ill from the climate. Day 2: He sees the poverty and accidentally eats a mouthful of sand. Day 3: He’s already withered. Weak and bedridden, Yu Lanyi lies in despair, no energy left. Yet his cheap husband is full of enthusiasm, checking in on him, behaving properly, and even refraining from sharing a bed. Yu Lanyi: “???” Soon, Yu Lanyi realizes this cheap husband of his might actually have potential. Everyone thought Yu Lanyi’s life was over—married off to the backwater countryside. They all mocked him. But in the end, every single one of them got a slap in the face.

My Thoughts on My Husband is a Villainous Male Supporting Character
I dove into My Husband is a Villainous Male Supporting Character with high hopes, and for the most part, it delivered. The premise alone – a modern person transmigrating into the body of a villainous character – is enough to pique my interest, but the execution is what really mattered. After finishing it, I can say that I enjoyed the journey quite a bit.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, I was drawn in by Zheng Shanci, the MC. He's not perfect, and that's what makes him so relatable. He's strong and capable in many ways, but he also has flaws and insecurities, which is refreshing. The world-building is also well-done, with a clear sense of ancient Chinese society and political intrigue. The pacing felt just right, allowing me to fully invest in the characters and their relationships.
What Works Well
The characters are definitely the strongest part of this novel. They feel incredibly alive, with distinct personalities and motivations. I especially loved the dynamic between Zheng Shanci and Yu Lanyi, his husband. Yu Lanyi can be a bit much in the beginning, as he can come across as spoiled and arrogant, but he undergoes significant character development throughout the story. His love for Zheng Shanci is unwavering, and their relationship is both heartwarming and hilarious.
The plot is also well-crafted, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged. I appreciated that Zheng Shanci's success was earned through his own hard work and talent, rather than relying on cheat codes or plot armor. The political maneuvering is interesting without being overwhelming, and the humor is well-placed and adds levity to the heavier moments.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, there were a few aspects that bothered me. Yu Lanyi's behaviour in the early chapters was hard to stomach at times. His bullying of Yu Shiyan, the original protagonist, felt glossed over and not properly addressed. It's understandable that he was spoiled and privileged, but his actions were still unacceptable.

Final Verdict
Despite some initial reservations about the ML's early behavior, My Husband is a Villainous Male Supporting Character is a worthwhile read. The charming protagonist, devoted love interests, and engaging plot make for a captivating story. If you're looking for a well-written historical romance with a strong male lead, I highly recommend giving this novel a try.
