Okay, so I dove into "My Girlfriend is Evil Woman" with some mixed expectations after seeing the initial buzz. The premise of a modern-day setting with fantasy elements woven in, plus a dash of school life and romance, definitely piqued my interest. Did it live up to the hype? Let's get into it.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a little thrown off. The sheer amount of cultural exposition felt a bit clunky. It felt like I was reading a textbook entry about Japanese customs rather than experiencing them organically through the story. While I appreciate authors making their work accessible, this felt a bit much. I almost felt like I was missing something, or that the information dumps were somehow interrupting the flow of the story.
What Works Well
The protagonist's initial goals were something I appreciated. He's portrayed as a mature guy focused on his education, which is a refreshing change of pace. This felt like a solid foundation for character development and potentially interesting conflicts. I was really hoping to see how the author would explore this aspect of his personality, and how it would affect his relationships with the female leads. The system aspect also had potential, although I do think it was underutilized.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, there were a few things that really held this novel back for me. The female characters, for one, didn't really endear themselves to me. The dynamic between the MC and some of the female leads felt, well, annoying. There was one character that was so off-putting that I couldn't imagine any kind of romantic development with her. This made it difficult for me to invest in the "harem" aspect of the story. The slow romance was also too slow, to the point where I lost interest in the romantic pairings.

Overall, "My Girlfriend is Evil Woman" has a few interesting ideas, but ultimately falls short in execution. The cultural infodumps are distracting, the female characters are largely unlikable, and there are some serious plot issues that make it difficult to recommend. I'm giving this one a 2.5 out of 5. There's potential here, but it needs a lot of work.
