My Thoughts on Married Too Young
"Married Too Young" is a completed yaoi novel that I finally got around to reading, and it was quite the ride. With a 4-star rating overall, I had pretty high expectations, and for the most part, it delivered a light and fluffy experience.
First Impressions
The premise is simple: an arranged marriage between Lu Ziqing, a young, somewhat pampered son of a wealthy businessman, and Lin Yu, one of his father's hard-working employees. It's a marriage of convenience setup, and right off the bat, I was intrigued to see how these two very different personalities would navigate their new life together. I found myself chuckling at the comedic undertones, and the characters were interesting enough to keep me invested.
What Works Well
The humor is definitely a strong point. The author does a great job of using comedic situations and witty dialogue to keep the story engaging, even when the plot gets a little predictable. I especially enjoyed the dynamic between the carefree Lu Ziqing and the more mature Lin Yu. Their interactions are often cute and funny, and I appreciated how the story didn't drag out unnecessary drama. The pace is snappy, which makes it a comfortable and quick read.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, there were a few things that bothered me. The biggest one was the lack of explanation for the contract marriage itself. It felt like a major plot point that was glossed over, and I was left wondering why it was even necessary in the first place. Also, while I appreciate the character development of Lu Ziqing, there were times when I found him a bit too oblivious for my liking. It did get frustrating at times, but thankfully, these moments were resolved quickly enough that it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the story.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Married Too Young" is a fun and entertaining read. It's not a groundbreaking novel, but it's a perfect choice if you're looking for something light, fluffy, and comedic. The characters are endearing, the plot is engaging, and the ending is satisfying. I'd recommend it as a palate cleanser between heavier reads or just a nice way to spend an afternoon.
