My Thoughts on Limitless

"Limitless" promised a unique blend of futuristic, modern, and ancient elements in a xianxia setting, and while it had moments that shone, my overall experience was somewhat mixed. It's a story that might appeal to newcomers to the genre, but seasoned readers might find it a bit too familiar.

First Impressions

Initially, I was drawn in by the idea of a genius MC with sealed powers navigating a world decades after a "new era." The mystery surrounding his cultivation method and the promise of an OP protagonist were definitely enticing. The early chapters had a certain charm, but as I delved deeper, I found myself struggling to stay invested.

What Works Well

The fast-paced action and the MC's "pig eating tiger" routine (feigning weakness) were undeniably appealing. I enjoyed the thrill of him disguising himself and infiltrating enemy territory, and the anticipation of discovering treasures in ancient ruins kept me turning the page, at least for a while. The world-building, despite some inconsistencies, presented an interesting combination of different eras. The translation quality also seemed solid, which is always a plus.

Areas of Concern

My biggest issue was the lack of originality. While the setting had potential, the story often fell into familiar xianxia tropes. The MC's reasons for hiding his strength sometimes felt contrived, and his methods for dealing with enemies were inconsistent. The characters also felt underdeveloped, with some appearing and disappearing without much impact on the overall narrative. The romance subplot, which initially drew me in, seemed to fade into the background, leaving me disappointed. The plot armor became increasingly thick, diminishing the suspense and making the story predictable.

Final Verdict

"Limitless" is a decent read if you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed xianxia with a somewhat unique setting. However, its reliance on familiar tropes, underdeveloped characters, and inconsistent plot developments ultimately prevent it from reaching its full potential. While it entertained me for a time, I can't wholeheartedly recommend it, especially to those well-versed in the genre. It's a 3/5 stars from me.
