My Thoughts on Les Interprètes
"Les Interprètes" is a completed josei novel that I recently dove into, drawn in by the drama, romance, and slice-of-life elements. While the overall rating sits at a 3/5, I found myself having a mixed bag of feelings about this story. It's definitely a ride, and not always a smooth one.
First Impressions
The premise is classic: rich boy meets poor girl. Our female lead is a college student who later becomes an interpreter, while the male lead is, well, wealthy. Immediately, I was intrigued by the potential for social commentary and character growth. The initial chapters definitely grabbed my attention, setting the stage for a tumultuous relationship.
What Works Well
What I appreciated most about "Les Interprètes" is the flawed nature of the characters. They aren't perfect, and that's what makes them feel real. The female lead is strong and stands up for herself, while the male lead seems to be manipulated by everyone around him. This creates a dynamic that keeps you guessing. The story is told from both points of view, so it's easier to understand the characters' actions. I also found the pacing to be pretty quick, which kept me engaged despite some of the more frustrating plot points. The author really puts these characters through the wringer! It's a heart-wrenching read, for sure, but if you're into that kind of thing, it delivers.
Areas of Concern
Okay, let's talk about the elephant in the room: the female lead's choices. Some of her decisions are...questionable. I can see why some readers might find her exasperating. Her pride sometimes seems to get in the way of her happiness, leading to unnecessary conflict and separation from the male lead. It's easy to get frustrated with her constant rejection of him.

Final Verdict
"Les Interprètes" is a dramatic and sometimes frustrating read. If you're looking for a light and fluffy romance, this isn't it. However, if you're willing to embrace the flaws and the drama, you might find yourself captivated by the story of these two imperfect individuals. Just be prepared for some potentially triggering content and a rollercoaster of emotions. I'd give it a tentative recommendation, but with a strong caveat about the mature themes.
