My Thoughts on Kiss Addiction
"Kiss Addiction" certainly sparked a range of opinions, and diving into it was quite the experience. It's a completed story, so I knew I was in for the long haul, but my enjoyment fluctuated quite a bit.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely attention-grabbing: a woman impulsively kisses a "blind" man to get back at her cheating ex, which leads to a marriage of convenience. Right away, I could see the potential for fluffy fun, but also the possibility of things going off the rails.
What Works Well
I can see why some readers found it cute and funny. The idea of a persistent male lead and a naive female lead navigating a fake relationship is always appealing. There are moments of lightheartedness and innocence that shine through, especially in the earlier chapters. I especially enjoyed that there's no forced intimacy. It's refreshing to see a romance where the characters aren't pressured into anything they're not comfortable with. The lack of drawn-out misunderstandings was a definite plus for me. It's nice to see a couple communicate (eventually!) like adults.
Areas of Concern
However, I also understand the criticisms leveled against the novel. The initial setup feels incredibly forced. The male lead's behavior definitely teeters on the edge of being domineering, and the female lead's initial reactions can be frustrating. Her inability to speak up for herself early on was a bit hard to swallow. The humor didn't always land for me, and some of the "fluffy" interactions felt more annoying than sweet. The lack of chemistry between the leads was also a recurring issue in my mind. It's hard to root for a couple when their connection feels dull.
