Description
Kamijou Takuma was one day caught up in a hero summoning with his whole class. While each and every one of Takuma’s classmates got powerful abilities, Takuma got Drilling (Hole digging). Branded as useless, Takuma was driven out of the Royal Castle. While inevitably digging a hole, he chanced upon hot springs. With a great effort, Takuma was determined to run an Onsen. My Thoughts on Isekai Onsen e Youkoso!
First Impressions
When I started "Isekai Onsen e Youkoso!," I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The premise – an isekai story centered around building an onsen – felt unique. I jumped in hoping for a relaxing and maybe even a bit humorous read. While it delivered on some of that, I also found myself grappling with a few shortcomings.
What Works Well
The core concept is undeniably appealing. The idea of an MC using their abilities to create and popularize an onsen in another world has a certain charm. The story definitely shines when it focuses on the relaxation and unique atmosphere an onsen can provide. I found myself wanting to visit one! The slice-of-life elements are generally well-executed, creating a laid-back vibe that's perfect for casual reading. Some readers may enjoy that the story does not have much of a plot.
Areas of Concern
Despite the enjoyable aspects, I did encounter some issues. The MC's characterization left me wanting more. He often felt like a generic Japanese guy making cultural references, without much depth beyond that. I also struggled to connect with the supporting characters, as they came across as one-dimensional. The plot meandered at times, and it was easy to forget what happened in previous chapters. Also, the translation is rough and could be improved by translating whole phrases instead of just leaving them as is, which would make the reading experience feel more polished.
Final Verdict
"Isekai Onsen e Youkoso!" is a decent light read if you're looking for something to pass the time. While it has its flaws – particularly in character development and plot coherence – the relaxing atmosphere and unique premise make it an enjoyable experience. Just don't expect anything groundbreaking or particularly deep.
