Initially, I was intrigued by the dynamic between Ren Li and Pei Jingling. The synopsis hinted at a "sticky white lotus" love interest, but it seems Pei Jingling is anything but. Instead, we have a persistent and, dare I say, shameless character chasing after the stoic Ren Li. This role reversal, with the shou actively pursuing the gong, is a refreshing change of pace in the BL genre.
What Works Well
The core of "Internal Players" lies in its characters and their evolving relationship. Watching Ren Li, initially annoyed by Pei Jingling's advances, slowly warm up to him is incredibly entertaining. The author does a great job of showcasing Ren Li's internal conflict as he tries to maintain his aloof facade while secretly enjoying Pei Jingling's attention.
The mystery surrounding their past lives adds another layer of intrigue.
