"I Mistook the Paranoid Gong for a Shou [Book Transmigration]" is definitely a ride, and not always a smooth one. I went in expecting a fluffy transmigration story with a bit of angst, and while it delivered on some fronts, it also left me with a few lingering questions and mixed feelings.
First Impressions
The initial premise is undeniably intriguing: a protagonist who transmigrates into a book and mistakes the male lead for someone else. This sets the stage for a series of misunderstandings and comedic situations. I was immediately drawn in by the dynamic between the main characters and eager to see how their relationship would unfold.
What Works Well
The early parts of the story, where the MC and ML are navigating their identities and feelings, are genuinely enjoyable. I appreciated the author's attempt at exploring the ML's character, giving him a traumatic past that explains his 'yandere' tendencies. Also, the ML's obsessive behavior can be oddly endearing at times, especially when he's trying (and often failing) to make up for his mistakes.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel stumbles in a few key areas. The "wife chasing" arc, while initially appealing, felt excessively drawn out. The constant misunderstandings and prolonged drama became tiresome after a while. I also felt that the MC's character shifted jarringly after discovering the ML's initial deception, and the subsequent violence didn't sit well with me.
