HxH: Noah’s Heart
By jjkk
Description
After opening his eyes, he found himself on the path to becoming the butler of an assassination family, the Zoldyck Family. There is Zeno, who managed to kill one person each day. There was also Illumi, who had a twisted sense of humor and a strong brother complex, and Kikyo, who was doting and leaned towards being a masochist. There was also Gatoh, who appeared cold but had a warm heart, as well as the serious Silva. And not to forget, the yet-to-be-born Killua and Kalluto… Noah felt immense pressure being a butler here. As he trained hard, wanting to leave the Zoldyck, he discovered some unspeakable secrets about himself… This is a story of a Nen user’s growth from weakness to strength… This is a normal Hunter x Hunter fanfiction.

My Thoughts on HxH: Noah’s Heart
"HxH: Noah's Heart" promised a fresh take on the Hunter x Hunter universe, and after diving in, I've got some thoughts to share. It's a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest, with some aspects really grabbing my attention while others left me scratching my head.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued. The premise of a character navigating the HxH world with a unique background is always appealing. The early chapters did a decent job of setting the stage and introducing Noah, our protagonist. I was ready to see how his journey would unfold and how he'd carve his own path amidst the established canon.
What Works Well
I appreciated the author's effort in crafting a protagonist who isn't just a carbon copy of existing characters. Noah has his own quirks and ambitions, and I found myself rooting for him as he worked towards his goals. The writing quality itself is also a definite plus. It's clear the author has a good grasp of grammar and sentence structure, which made the reading experience smoother and more enjoyable than some other fanfics I've encountered. The story also seems to be paced well, with Noah showing a determined will to become stronger.
Areas of Concern
However, there were a couple of elements that gave me pause. One thing that felt a little off was the MC's age. Starting at 15 and potentially reaching 34 by the time the main Hunter x Hunter storyline kicks off feels like a significant time jump. It raises questions about how he'll interact with the core characters and whether his experiences will overshadow the established narrative.
Perhaps the biggest sticking point for me, though, was the introduction of "qi refinement." It felt a little out of place within the HxH universe, which has its own well-defined power system in Nen. While I'm open to creative liberties, this addition felt like it clashed with the established world-building, pulling me out of the story.
Final Verdict
Overall, "HxH: Noah's Heart" has potential. The writing is solid, and the protagonist is engaging. However, certain choices, like the age progression and the introduction of "qi refinement," might not appeal to all readers, especially those who prefer a closer adherence to the original HxH universe. It's a fanfic that I would cautiously recommend, with the caveat that it deviates from canon in significant ways. Whether that's a positive or a negative ultimately depends on individual reader preference.
