Description
It is said that humans only reveal 5% of their DNA. The person you perceive yourself to be and the person others judge you for is determined by this 5%. No one can know what is in the hidden 95%. Put simply, it would be as if our parents gave us a total of 100 cards when they gave us life – of which only 5 can be used. They don’t know which cards they’ll be handing down, but that’s not the real issue. The bigger problem is that of the 100 random cards, we can’t even choose which of the 5 we get to use. We have to pick them with our eyes closed. Now imagine each of these cards represents a different trait – maybe an attractive face, an intelligent mind, a great body, a handicap. A lucky person who might have been fated with a prized card would be able to use it as a weapon to speed through life with considerable ease. And then there are also the ill-fated who end up with a torn or useless card. Maybe all five cards are duds. But that is what we have to use to our advantage or disadvantage until we die. This is a story about a boy, the “cards” he is dealt, and how he uses them to build a music empire.

My Thoughts on God’s Song
"God's Song" promised a journey through the world of music, and for the most part, it delivered a harmonious experience. It's a complete story, which is always a plus, and the premise of a musically gifted orphan finding his place in the world is inherently appealing. While it wasn't without its flaws, I found myself captivated by the protagonist's journey and the glimpse into the Korean entertainment industry.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the slice-of-life aspect and the promise of a "zero to hero" narrative. The early chapters paint a picture of a struggling orphan, and I was eager to see how his innate talent would blossom. However, I did notice that the initial chapters can feel a bit slow. The short chapter lengths, divided into even smaller sections, sometimes made the pacing feel choppy.
What Works Well
The novel shines in its portrayal of the music world. The author clearly has a passion for music, and it shows in the detailed descriptions of performances, compositions, and the intricacies of the industry. I also appreciated the realistic depiction of the protagonist's rise to fame. It wasn't an overnight success, and he faced genuine setbacks along the way. I found the exploration of classical music, in particular, to be a refreshing change from the typical web novel fare. The author does a great job of conveying the protagonist's genius without making him feel like a Mary Sue. His talent is constantly tested, and he has to work hard to hone his skills.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find myself wanting more depth from some of the supporting characters. The focus remained heavily on the protagonist, and other characters sometimes felt underdeveloped. Some found the humor to be lacking, and the story to be more bland than funny. Also, some readers may find the author's views on race and gender to be somewhat dated.

Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "God's Song" is a worthwhile read for those who enjoy slice-of-life stories with a focus on music. The engaging plot, realistic portrayal of the entertainment industry, and heartwarming relationships make it a captivating journey. While it may not be a perfect masterpiece, it's a solid and enjoyable novel that I would recommend, especially if you're looking for something different from the typical web novel tropes. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
