My Thoughts on Gateway to Happiness
"Gateway to Happiness" promised a heartwarming slice-of-life story with a transmigrated protagonist, and for a good while, it delivered. I went in expecting a cozy read, and while it had some bumps along the way, it mostly met my expectations.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were definitely the strongest. The premise of a modern woman reincarnating as an abandoned baby in ancient China immediately grabbed my attention. Watching her navigate the world as a toddler, with the mind of an adult, was both amusing and endearing. The dynamic with her adoptive family, especially her siblings, felt genuinely warm and fuzzy.
What Works Well
The family aspect is undoubtedly the novel's strongest point. Many readers, myself included, were drawn to the close-knit relationships within the Lu household. The author did a great job portraying the everyday joys and struggles of a simple family in a historical setting. I also appreciated the lighthearted tone and the lack of overly dramatic conflicts. It's a refreshing change from the usual face-slapping revenge plots often found in this genre. The MC is outgoing and shameless, making her entertaining to read.
Areas of Concern
However, as the story progressed, I found myself becoming increasingly frustrated with the main character. While her childish antics were cute at first, they started to feel repetitive and, at times, even annoying. Some readers felt that she lacked emotional maturity and didn't develop much throughout the story, remaining brash, impulsive, and overconfident. I also noticed that the plot development felt somewhat random and lacking in direction. The ending, in particular, felt rushed and unsatisfying. The victory at the end was only in a sentence, and the MC and ML’s wedding was just a line.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Gateway to Happiness" is a decent read, especially if you're looking for a lighthearted and heartwarming story about family. However, be prepared for a slow-paced plot, a somewhat frustrating protagonist, and an ending that may leave you wanting more. I'd recommend it with a caveat: go in expecting a simple, slice-of-life tale and don't expect too much depth or complexity. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
