"Freak" is definitely a novel that leaves an impression. Diving into the minds of characters who exist outside societal norms is a bold move, and while it doesn't entirely stick the landing for me, there's enough here to make it a worthwhile, albeit potentially disturbing, read.

First Impressions

Initially, I was intrigued by the premise. A dark yuri romance with psychological elements? Sign me up! I was prepared for something intense, and "Freak" certainly delivers on that front. However, I quickly found myself wondering if the story was trying too hard to be edgy.

What Works Well

The core strength of this novel lies in the dynamic between the two female leads. The author crafts their interactions with a certain poetic flair, and I found myself drawn into their twisted connection. The steamy scenes are undoubtedly well-written and contribute to the overall atmosphere of the story. Areas of Concern

My main issue is the subtlety, or rather, the lack thereof. At times, the character's psychopathic tendencies felt a bit too on-the-nose, almost like caricatures. This occasionally pulled me out of the story and made it harder to fully invest in their relationship. Also, I found the ending to be somewhat predictable and anticlimactic, which was a bit disappointing after such a build-up of tension.
