"Film Empress’s Daily Face Slapping" promised a sassy protagonist navigating the entertainment world, but my experience was a bit more lukewarm. This novel is complete, but the translation is ongoing, so my experience is based on the available translation and the rest MTL. While it had its moments, I found myself wanting more from the premise.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were promising. The female lead, Su Shi, transmigrates into the body of an actress and I was intrigued to see how she would use her past life skills to navigate the modern world. The "face slapping" title also piqued my interest, making me expect a strong, assertive female lead ready to take on the entertainment industry.
What Works Well
The romance between Su Shi and Xie Yan is definitely a highlight. Many readers praised how cute and fluffy their interactions were. I appreciated that the male lead, despite being a cold and aloof character, showed a different side to Su Shi. It was also good that the female lead wasn't a pushover, and she didn't change her personality to please the male lead. The story is generally light and angst-free, making it a good choice for a relaxing read.
Areas of Concern
The biggest disappointment for me was the lack of "face slapping." The title sets a certain expectation, and the novel simply doesn't deliver. Su Shi rarely confronts her rivals directly, and any payback is usually orchestrated by the male lead or her agent. Also, while Su Shi possesses skills from her past life, such as cooking and knowledge of the four arts, they are not utilized enough.

"Film Empress’s Daily Face Slapping" is an okay read if you're looking for a light, fluffy romance with minimal drama. However, if you expect a strong female lead actively taking down her enemies and utilizing her past life skills to conquer the entertainment industry, you might be disappointed. The novel is entertaining, but I wouldn't call it memorable. It's a 3/5 for me.
