"Fatal Shot" is a bit of a mixed bag, and I can see why the overall rating is somewhat low. However, there's definitely a diamond in the rough here for readers who enjoy specific elements. It's not perfect, but it kept me interested enough to keep reading.

First Impressions

Initially, the premise is intriguing, if a little convoluted. Our protagonist is transported to another world, or dimension, only to then dive into a VRMMORPG. It felt a bit like a story within a story, and I wasn't completely sold on the logic of the initial transportation. The early chapters do suffer from some info-dumping and a slightly stiff writing style as the world and relationships are established. It takes a bit of patience to get through the first 50-100 chapters.

What Works Well

Once you get past the initial setup, the novel finds its stride, especially if you're a fan of military firearms and sci-fi elements. The action sequences, heavily based on gunfights, are well-done, and the protagonist is a clever and cautious sniper. I found the game mechanics and weapon descriptions surprisingly engaging, and the author does a decent job of balancing the protagonist's power level, ensuring the challenges remain interesting. The story incorporates elements from familiar movies and games, like Resident Evil and Star Wars, which can be a fun bonus if you catch the references. The protagonist is also not someone who lets others push him around.
