Description
Life is difficult, Meng Chen only wants to survive. He once let out a heart-wrenching wail in the dark night and gradually stopped breathing amidst his father’s curses. Later, Meng Chen thought he had found his true love, so he endured the pain, willing to be a moth drawn to the flames. But that person said it was just for fun, something fresh and new. “—I really want to live on. “ “—You tell me, why is life so bitter, not giving me a shred of sweetness.”

My Thoughts on Dust
"Dust" is a short, poignant omegaverse story that definitely left an impression, even if a slightly bittersweet one. The premise, a crematorium-style romance where the ML has to work hard to win back the MC, immediately grabbed my attention, and the overall execution, while rushed in places, delivered on the emotional angst.
First Impressions
Going in, I knew this was a shorter novel, and that expectation definitely colored my experience. The initial setup is compelling: a world where social status and omegaverse dynamics create inherent conflict. The idea of a "poor protagonist" and the "devoted love interests" tag intrigued me, promising a story with compelling character dynamics. I was ready to dive into a world of hurt and eventual redemption.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect of "Dust" is undoubtedly its emotional core. Despite the condensed narrative, the author manages to evoke a strong sense of anguish, particularly concerning the MC's suffering. The translation seems well done, which is always a huge plus, allowing the story's sentimentality to shine through. The plot, while straightforward, provides a solid foundation for the exploration of its themes. The premise of the ML chasing after the MC in a "crematorium" setting is compelling, and the story delivers on that promise of angst and eventual, hard-earned forgiveness.
Areas of Concern
My main critique revolves around the pacing. Being a shorter story, "Dust" feels somewhat rushed. I found myself wanting more depth, more exploration of the characters' motivations, and a more detailed account of their relationship. The lack of detail made it difficult to fully invest in the characters, and the rapid progression of events sometimes felt jarring. It would have been nice to see more nuance in the ML's actions to determine if he is truly a "slag".

Final Verdict
Overall, "Dust" is a decent read, particularly if you're looking for a quick dose of angst and a crematorium-style romance. While the pacing could be improved, the emotional impact is undeniable, and the translation is well done. It might not be a story that sticks with me for years to come, but it's a worthwhile read if you're in the mood for a short, bittersweet omegaverse tale. I'd give it a solid 3.75 out of 5 stars.
